SCHOOL PROGRAM

THE SECRET TO OUR NEW PROGRAM

On Torah

“The sages advise us to study Torah lishma-"for its own sake" rather than to impress others with our scholarship. A paradox of parenting is that if we love our children for their own sake rather than for their achievements, it's more likely that they will reach their true potential.”

Wendy Mogel, The Blessing of a Skinned Knee: Using Jewish Teachings to Raise Self-Reliant Children

On Avodah

“The primary purpose of prayer is not to make requests. The primary purpose is to praise, to sing, to chant. Because the essence of prayer is a song, and man cannot live without a song.

Prayer may not save us. But prayer may make us worthy of being saved.”

Abraham Joshua Heschel, Moral Grandeur and Spiritual Audacity: Essays

On Gemilut Chassadim

"The true essence of humankind is kindness. There are other qualities which come from education or knowledge, but it is essential, if one wishes to be a genuine human being and impart satisfying meaning to one's existence, to have a good heart."

- The 14th Dalai Lama

1. We use active, experiential learning methods to create a space in which students learn by doing.  Our curriculum focuses on Hebrew reading, understanding prayer, the study of Torah and Jewish history, enacting Gemilut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness and social action), and experiencing holidays and Jewish life cycle events.

 2. We work to recruit, develop, and retain fantastic educators who are actively engaged in their own professional development, and passionate about their students. We believe that children learn more from social modeling than from direct instruction, and thus strive to find teachers who embody our values, in order to serve as "dugma ishit" - personal examples to our students in order to faciliate enculturation and positive outcomes.

3. We strive to be accountable to parents in order to encourage and enable them to become active partners in their children's Jewish education. We know that we cannot accomplish all of our educational goals alone - it is a simple matter of bandwidth. We seek to bring parents and children closer together as Jewish families, learning about Judaism together, and integrating it into their lives in a wholistic way.

4. We maintain a professional administration in which communication with families is efficient, punctual, and respectful. We understand that the key to an effective program is good and clear communication, both of logistics, and of expectations.

5. We create an inclusive, vibrant and warm community for students and their families. We see ourselves as social facilitators, not restricted to only providing educational programs.  We, and our students and their families, are an extension of the loving family of our whole Ner Tamid Jewish community.

 FIVE STRATEGIES FOR OUR SUCCESS

We at the Sam S Bloom Learning Center invite you to be a part of our innovative and highly effective Hebrew program.

Our school is based on one simple principle:

When you have fun, you learn more.

Using experiential camp-style programming, we invite our students to experience what it is to be Jewish in an exciting and engaging way, while giving them superior academic Hebrew skills which will help them excel as they come of age and move forward towards their B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies, and beyond.

We believe so strongly in our program’s effectiveness that we invite all new students to try us out, for a month tuition free, with no obligation.
