The Hebrew phrase gemilut chasidim (גְּמִילוּת חֲסָדִים) means "the bestowal of kindnesses," or the practice of chesed (i.e., love). Such benevolence is regarded as greater than tzedakah (doing the right thing out of a sense of duty) because love anticipates the needs of others and acts from a sense of compassion. As an old Jewish proverb states: "Tzedakah awaits the cry of distress; benevolence anticipates the cry of distress." The Scriptures declare, "The world is built in chesed (חֶסֶד)" (Psalm 89:3[h]).

Here at Sam S Bloom Learning Center, we never want to turn away a willing student for any reason, especially not for a financial one. It costs $775 per student per year in tuition, and for many families, this cost makes enrolling at SSBLC prohibitively expensive. For many years, the Jewish Federation of San Diego had the Tuition Incentive Program (TIP), an incredible program that subsidized the tuition of first time Hebrew school students. Unfortunately, TIP has been cancelled this year due to a lack of funding.
We need your help!
For $387.50, you can sponsor a child's tuition for half of a year.
For $775 you can sponsor a child's tuition for a full year.
In that year, that child will learn how to read Hebrew, experience Jewish holidays, study Torah, and have an unforgettable Jewish experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
